Science Projects

The Science Core of the NM-INBRE project supports selected research proposals from promising faculty, coordinates the mentoring program, and fosters research collaborations. The overarching goal of the projects in the Structure & Function of Biomolecules thematic area is to understand at the molecular level the mechanisms underlying the functions of proteins that mediate critical cellular processes through detailed knowledge of their structures. The unifying objective of the projects in the Cell and Organism thematic area is the elucidation of complex physiological processes, such as hypertension, memory, cell division and oogenesis. The Pathogens thematic area builds on existing strengths in infectious disease, immunology, inflammation, and a developing biodefense community. The proposed investigations are complementary to existing research in the State, and create the potential for new investigators to join established networks of experienced scientists and establish the "critical mass" necessary for multidisciplinary and multi-investigator initiatives.
