NM-INBRE SUMMER EXPERIENCE (NISE)

The NM-INBRE Summer Experience (NISE) is an intensive summer research experience that  specifically targets Promising Undergraduate students at all of the NM-INBRE network institutions, at formative career stages. The ideal participating student is entering the sophomore or junior year of undergraduate study, interested in learning more about careers in biomedical research, and has not previously worked in a research lab.

Each institution in the network can support up to 2 students. Upon selection, students will be matched with a mentor at their home or partner institution, develop a proposal for the research experience, and conduct a 9-week summer research project. Faculty mentors will provide research-related guidance to their student mentees. In addition to providing training on safe, ethical research practices and developing technical and analytical skills, faculty mentors will work with students to understand the process of graduate education, and different degrees and career opportunities that are available. The summer experience will culminate with attendance and a presentation of research results at the NM-INBRE annual meeting.

PROGRAM DATES

Beginning no later than June 1st through the first week of August.
