Overview
As part of the NM-INBRE Sequencing and Informatics Core aim to increase collaborative research, the National Center for Genome Resources (NCGR) has brought cutting edge analysis and next-generation sequencing with Illumina and PacBio instrumentation to 33 INBRE research groups throughout New Mexico, regionally and nationally. Through a competitive pilot study request-for-proposal (RFP) mechanism, INBRE investigators competed and were independently chosen to solve pressing research questions in various organisms and clinical areas. Specifically, supporting studies in developmental patterns, gene expression, gene regulation, evolution, virulence, genomics, and transcriptomics in S. aureus, drosophila, sea urchin egg, mosquito (west nile virus), rat (vascular system), human (acute myeloid leukemia; glioblastoma), P. aeruginosa (cystic fibrosis), C. elegans, mouse (serum response factor; Wilson’s disease), zebrafish brain, M. xanthus (cell-cell protein transfer), berry prickles (plant hormones), V. cholerae, avipoxvirus, E. coli, and chile among others. These partnerships are a cost-effective way to bring state of the art genetic exploration tools and an experienced core facility to INBRE investigators for biomedical research and provide sound preliminary data to increase competitiveness for federal research grants.
